Welcome back to another Faithful Friday encouragement: “When the King says…”
When the King says, “Go,” do we go?
When the King says, “Wait,” do we wait?
If the King says , “Do this,” do we obey?
If the King says, “Come and rest,” why is that a struggle to obey?
If we truly are Christ Followers who know Jesus as Lord and Savior, then we are in the King of King’s’ Kingdom. Yes, we are His servants, but also a part of His family: His Children. Since the Creation of the World, God modeled the way a week should go. Six days He worked and the seventh day He rested. It wasn’t because He was tired. It was for us. The Israelites had to trust God and use the double portion given on the sixth day to sustain them on the seventh. They had to trust God when He told them to let the land rest on the seventh year.
God owns everything. He has endless resources. Will we trust Him? Will we seek His Kingdom agenda above our own? He has every right to interrupt our plans. Will we seek Him before we plan our day and prepare ourselves to listen to Him throughout the day?
Sometimes we are more likely to obey and go and do. Remember , if He is calling you to come and rest , He has already prepared and set aside that time for that purpose. Yes, we are His servants ,but also as His Children we have the opportunity to pull up to the table to fellowship with our Heavenly Father. We have the privilege to talk and laugh with Him, getting to know Him better. Don’t wait until your body forces you to rest , because you refused to so sooner. Many of our societies look down on rest as being lazy , but the King of the Universe created rest for a purpose.
The verses in Revelation Chapter 3 below are not salvation verses . Jesus doesn’t stand and knock to be let into our hearts and us forget about Him. This was to the Church / believers who had salvation, but their lives were neither refreshing like cold water nor healing like hot springs of water. The Lord desires and cares about our relationship with Him. The promise in the command from the Lord is that if we seek His Kingdom and His Way above all , then He will provide for our needs . There is no need to worry according to Matthew 6:25-34.
Revelation 3:20-22
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with me. 21 He who overcomes, I will give to him to sit down with me on my throne, as I also overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.”
John 14 : 23 -24
Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 He who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The word which you hear isn’t mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
Matthew 6:25-34
Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?
27 “Which of you by being anxious, can add one moment§ to his lifespan? 28 Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don’t toil, neither do they spin, 29 yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won’t he much more clothe you, you of little faith?
31 “Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.
The call to rest and fellowship with the Lord is just as important as our service to Him. There is balance when we listen to the King , as we go through each day. How can we receive our “spiritual daily bread” or know what the King desires of us , if we never spend time with Him , reading His Word and talking in a two way conversation in prayer? That’s the way we get to know His Voice and Character in the midst of other voices , especially those who seek to deceive or lead us astray.
Will we take the time to listen and obey whatever our King tells us?
