Accountability: Don’t Give Up!

A few months ago I shared a blog post about accountability.

How is that going for you?

I have started adding a second habit to work one this past week. It hasn’t been easy. Last night I was watching a baby walking. They would walk a few steps and then fall.  It can be like that with trying to start or break habits.

I read Proverbs 24 this morning and was reminded of this verse.

Proverbs 24:16

for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again,

but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

This is from my journal from January 26, 2022:

If you’ve ever felt like you just keep falling and failing , like the Lord is going to give up on you, keep reading …

Abba (Our Heavenly Father) I am nearer than you think. I am close to the broken-hearted. I called you into our secret place, not to condemn you , but give you grace in time of need.

I knew you’d fall. Even babies fall when they are learning to walk. Eventually their stamina increases for longer periods of time.  Being older doesn’t mean you’ll never fall again. It just means you know how to find and go to the source to deal with the pain properly.

A sore elbow may hurt, but it takes less extensive measures to recover than from a deep wound or something broken that needs surgery.

Bring everything to Me, like a child who doesn’t know how to handle the pain or unsure of the correct dosage. Try to fix it yourself and you may risk longer periods of pain, or even more infection if you ignore it.

The doctor takes care of something, checking it until you recover if you visit him.  A child in a father’s house, the father watches for any sign of deeper infection. If he sees more areas of concern then he takes the child in whether by appointment or emergency depending on the situation. A father who is a doctor can assess both.

I am the Great Physician.  Come to Me and cast the cares: physical, emotional, and spiritual at My feet. Be honest with Me. I love you as My child and I will heal your wounds. The greatest healing that saves for eternity is complete ( for those who know Jesus as Lord and Savior) , but I also care about your temporary situations because I care about and love you….

Verses that came to mind during the conversation:

Psalms 34:17-19

17 The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears,

and delivers them out of all their troubles.

18 Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart,

and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,

but Yahweh delivers him out of them all.

Hebrews 4:14-16

Having then a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let’s hold tightly to our confession.  15 For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. 16 Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

1 Peter 5:7

casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

Don’t give up just because you fall. Repent of any sin, and remember every day is a new day. Every moment is a moment to make a different choice than before.
